A replica of Old Fort Madison on the city's riverfront is around a quarter century old. This means it might be time for some repairs.
An architectural firm evaluated the Old Fort and reported a lot of water damage. The firm recommended a few things that need to be done in order to preserve the buildings.
One of the recommendations given was to hire a log construction company for a better look at the repair costs.
Damage from a fire that happened in October of 2012 has been repaired, but there is still some cleanup to do.
Although the repairs are not major, City Manager Byron Smith said it might take some time.
"I think it's going to be a long term fix, because a lot of the things we think we will be able to do with our own labor so it will just be a little bit at a time," said Smith.
Smith also said the site will remain open during the repairs so as to not affect tourism.
