Remembering Lane Evans

Friends of Lane Evans

Family, friends, and former colleagues and co-workers said goodbye Monday to Lane Evans.

The former congressman from Rock Island died last week after a long struggle with Parkinson’s disease.  He was 63.

Evans who represented western Illinois in Congress for 24 years. 

After a funeral in Sacred Heart Cathedral in Moline, the former Marine received full military honors at his burial in the National Cemetery on Arsenal Island. 

At what he called "a terrible time," his brother Doyle Evans said it's been a wonderful experience to hear from so many people who loved him. 

“Lane touched a lot of lives and meant a lot to a lot of people.  We’ll miss him, but he’ll be remembered, I think forever,” he said.

Doyle Evans said Lane was a great brother and a great person, and a Congressman "unlike any other."

Lane Evans was first elected to Congress in 1982, and served until his retirement for health reasons in 2006.
