Keokuk, IA – The number of supevisors in one Lee County office has been cut in half. The Board of Supervisors has voted to allow just one deputy in the county recorder's office, which currently has two deputies. State law allows county attorneys, auditors, recorders, sheriffs, and treasurers to appoint one or more employees to serve as deputy and fill in for them when necessary. Recorder Larry Holtkamp says cutting out the second deputy will impact his office. He had asked the board for permission to promote his 2nd deputy, because his 1st deputy is retiring, and then he would appoint a new 2nd deputy. There are 5 full time employees in the recorder's office. The auditor's office has 9, with 3 deputies. The treasurer's office has 3 deputies included in its 12 employees.
