Quartet Has An International Flair

Macomb, IL – This is International Education Week. A number of activities will be held on the W.I.U. campus, including a performance by a music group made up of faculty members from different parts of the world. The Julstrom String Quartet was founded in 2000. It's named in honor of Clifford Julstrom, who was a string teacher and former chair of Western's music department. Two original members of the quartet are still with the group. They are cellist Moises Molina, who grew up in Honduras, and violinist Elizabeth Aquila, who hails from Minnesota. The other violinist is Julieta Mihai, who grew up in Romania. The viola player is Istvan Szabo, who is a Hungarian from Romania. While the four come from different backgrounds, they work well together. Molina says it's trite but true -- music is an international language. The group will perform at 7:30 tonight (Monday November 14) in the COFAC Recital Hall. Listen to a feature about the members of the Julstrom String Quartet by clicking on the audio button above.
