Professor Predicts Extended Appeal in Ryan Case

Macomb, IL – A WIU Law Enforcement Professor says the promised appeal in the George Ryan case will be unsually long and complicated. Barry Anderson says a couple of factors could cause the appeal to take up to three years. The first factor would be the replacement of two jurors after eight days of deliberation. He says if one of those replaced had been preventing a unanimous verdict, that might affect the appeal. He says the other factor is the number of counts filed against Ryan and his co-defendant Larry Warner. Anderson says there were many nuances in the charges that could affect the appeal. Ryan's attorney Dan Webb will file post-trial motions to overturn the conviction.
