Macomb, IL – A Macomb-based matchmaker is preparing for a big event.

Volunteer Now! will hold its annual dinner and fundraiser Tuesday, May 11 at Wesley United Methodist Church. Tickets are $15. Doors will open at 5:30 and dinner will begin at 6:00. Raffle and silent auction items can be viewed before dinner.

Dinner tickets are available from the Volunteer Now! office at Macomb City Hall. The phone number is 309-836-3754.

Volunteer Now! matches non-profit organizations with people who want to help out in the community. They can register with Volunteer Now! on its website.

Board member Debbie Vandemark says the response has been strong.

"We have now over 50 non-profit organizations from the area registered on our website," says Vandemark. "It's a great matching service."

She says volunteers come from all walks of life, and there are more needs than there are volunteers.

Volunteer Now! began in 2004. Vandemark became involved with it one year later and has remained with the group ever since.

"I have stayed involved with Volunteer Now! because I believe it serves a very important role in the community," says Vandemark. "It's been near and dear to my heart for a long time."

She says Volunteer Now! provides a multitude of choices for people who want to provide assistance to a non-profit group. In addition, it's a one-stop shop for potential volunteers who are new to the community.

Vandemark says Volunteer Now! won the Governor's Award in 2006 for a small town project. "I think that speaks well to what Volunteer Now! is and what we do."
