Pay Hikes Requested By 2 More Keokuk Unions

Keokuk, IA – Members of 2 more employee unions are asking Keokuk for pay increases in their next contracts. Workers within the General Union, which includes the bridge, parks, and streets departments, are seeking a 2-year contract. In the first year, employees would receive a pay hike of roughly 6.5%. The second year would call for 6% hikes. The union is also seeking additional pay for swing-span operators in the bridge department and a reduction in the time an employee must work to receive life and health insurance. Employees at Keokuk's Water Pollution Control Plan want a 3-year contract, complete with a 6%, across the board, pay hike each year. The union workers also want shift differential pay, changes in sick leave, and additional holiday time. The city is expected to make its counter-offers to the two unions within the next 2 weeks. Keokuk has already entered negotiations with the police bargaining unit and the firefighters union. Members of those organizations are also seeking pay increases.
