Owner Says Keokuk Building A Total Loss

Keokuk, IA – The owner of the Southeast Iowa Redemption Center says Thursday night's fire is devastating to his company and to Keokuk. Brian Boyd says his building on South 7th Street is a total loss. He hopes some equipment may be salvagable. Boyd says the structure was used for both recycling and for storage. He found out about the fire roughly a half hour after it started. Boyd says the financial impact will be substantial. He says the structure was uninsured and the total cost could be $250,000. Firefighters fought the blaze for 9 hours before it was contained and remained on scene for several more hours pumping water onto the building. Fire Chief Mark Wessel says it could be some time before an exact cause of the fire is determined. He says there were no injuries in connection to the fire. Boyd says the redemption center, along Main Street, will stay open. He says some temporary storage space will be needed.
