Macomb, IL – Macomb will soon have a new police chief.
Chief Michael Galloway submitted his letter of intent to retire to the mayor and city council. Mayor Mick Wisslead will appoint the next chief. "Mike caught us a little off guard," says Wisslead. "Right now my intentions are that our new chief would be Curt Barker. I think the council pretty much agrees with that."
Barker is Deputy Chief at the police department. A replacement for Barker as Deputy Chief has not yet been picked. "A Deputy Chief will come from within the ranks," Wisslead says.
The council has to vote on Wisslead's appointment. He anticipates that will happen in July.
Galloway has been a part of the Macomb Police Department for more than 26-years. Galloway's last day will be August 31st.
In Galloway's letter he said "My twenty-six and a half year career with the Macomb Police Department has been interesting and challenging. Some of my most memorable years were spent as a patrol officer, six years representing the department as a D.A.R.E. Officer and Public Relations Officer and receiving a Recognition of Achievement Award for outstanding leadership and management as Chief of Police, given to me by the members of the Fraternal Order of Police in 2007."
