A New Home From A New Habitat Chapter

Beardstown, IL – Habitat for Humanity says it has built and rehabilitated more than 150,000 homes since it was founded in 1976. Now, for the first time, one of those homes is in Cass County, IL. The single-story house is located at 6th and Monroe in Beardstown. The proud new owner is Tony Watson, who says it's a dream come true. A dedication ceremony for the home attracted more than 50 people. They toured the house and gave gifts, including an American flag, a handmade quilt, and a cookbook. Watson's mother flew in from San Francisco and gave her son a swing for the front porch. The next project for the Habitat chapter is to build a home in Schuyler County. It's still searching for the right person and location. Members of the chapter say quality affordable housing is a major need in the region.
