New Emergency Medical Transportation In Lee County

Fort Madison, IA – Southeast Iowa residents now have better access to emergency medical transportation. An Air Evac Lifeteam air ambulance base is now in place at Fort Madison Community Hospital. Area manager Jeff Call says there are 60 such bases in 11 midwestern states. He says the goal is to provide rural residents with access to emergency air transportation if a major trauma center is not nearby. Call says the Air Evac service can respond to accidents or emergencies and transfer patients from hospital to hospital. There will be about a dozen nurses, pilots, and medics in Fort Madison. Call says the service is available to anyone that needs it, though there is a membership program with an annual cost of about $50. He says members that have to use the service can do so for no additional charge. Call says the membership dollars go to keep the services operational in rural communities. Air Evac Lifeteam bases are also located in Ottumwa, Quincy, and Kirksville.
