New Beginnings for Keokuk Catholic Schools

Keokuk, IA – The upcoming school year will be one of new beginnings for the Keokuk Catholic Schools. Even though Cardinal Stritch High School closed its doors, earlier this year, the school will be in use when classes begin next month. Administrator Mike Ellerman says the building will now house 2 seperate schools, Saint Vincent's Elementary and Cardinal Stritch Junior High. Volunteers have spent the summer updating the computer lab and library and removing science labs and other equipment. Ellerman says the future of the former Saint Vincents school building is still up in the air. He says it is currently being used to store unused equipment in anticipation of a possible auction later this year. Ellerman says enrollment in the new schools will not be known for another month, though he anticipates larger than usual preschool and kindergarten classes. High school students within the Keokuk Catholic School system will attend Holy Trinity High School in Fort Madison. That system was created by the merging of Fort Madison Aquinas and West Point Marquette.
