Nauvoo to Vote on Ambulance Service

Nauvoo, IL – Nauvoo residents will have a referendum on the April ballot that will let the fire protection district establish an ambulance service. EMS Director Vicki Gallagher says response from the Hancock County ambulance service has been slow, and dependent on whether neighboring ambulances are staffed when an emergency occurs. She says a tax rate of one-tenth of a percent would provide $34,000, which would cover an ambulance with equipment to transport patients. She says the Nauvoo fire department has 18 EMTs, so staffing will not be a problem. If the referendum passes, the Nauvoo tax rate would replace the existing county-wide tax that supports the existing ambulance service.
