Nauvoo Volunteers Clear Historic Rest Area

Nauvoo, IL – A volunteer group from Nauvoo has cleared up a rest area named after Joseph Smith's son. The David's Chamber rest area is south of Nauvoo along Route 96. Doug Knowles is one of the volunteers. He says the waterfalls and picnic table areas had become overgrown with trees, brush and weeds. Volunteers cleared out the vegetation and used fire department help to wash mud out of the seven waterfalls to let them flow freely. Knowles says the project could lead to formation of a group called Friends of Nauvoo, which could undertake similar projects throughout the area.
