Charges against a Chicago man were upgraded after the Galesburg man he allegedly stabbed died.
Christopher Croom, 29, is accused of First Degree Murder and Unlawful Use of a Weapon by a Felon. He’s wanted on a Knox County arrest warrant that carries a $1 million bail.
Galesburg police say witnesses told them Croom stabbed Melvin Buckner, 49, in the front yard of a home in the 500 block of West Brook Street late Wednesday night, August 13.
Buckner was taken in a private car to Galesburg Cottage Hospital. He was later transferred to OSF St. Francis Medical Center in Peoria, where he died Sunday evening.
