More Jobs Could Be Coming To Lee County

Keokuk, IA – Even more jobs could be coming to Lee County, provided the necessary workforce is available. Economic Development Director, Lowell Junkins, says an industry, specializing in alternative energy and advanced manufacturing, is stronly considering moving to Lee County. He says teh business would create about 350 jobs. Before the industry will commit to the region, it needs to know if there are enough skilled workers. Junkins says potential employees are being asked to fill out a survey, which will eventually be used as a job application. Junkins hopes to be able to show the industry at least 1000 applicants. He says advertisements about the job survey are running throughout a 100 mile radius of Keokuk. The applications are available at the Lee County Economic Development Group's office in Montrose or at local Iowa Workforce Development offices. This effort comes several weeks after Siemens Power Generation announced plans to employ more than 250 workers at its new plant in Fort Madison.
