Montrose Water Project Still Delayed

Montrose, IA – Montrose is still waiting to begin work on its connection to a new water distribution system.

Montrose has been dealing with water quality issues for year. The city has agreed to connect to the Rathbun Regional Water Association, instead of building its own plant.

Mayor Greg Ruth says the project is currently delayed because of ongoing archaeological work. He says the work must be done because state and federal funding is involved.

Ruth says the archaeological work has also delayed the construction of R.R.W.A.'s new water tower. That is how the city will connect to the system.

Ruth says an alternative route is not an option. He says the city must replace water lines along the current route, so it is either now or later for the excavations.

Ruth says the city hopes to see some work underway this fall, though he expects most of the construction to take place next spring. He says it's unclear how much the project will cost because construction bids must wait until the archaeological work is completed.
