Montrose to Upgrade Water System

Montrose, IA – Another Lee County community is looking to upgrade its drinking water system. The Montrose City Council has agreed to purchase water from the Rathbun Regional Water Association. Mayor Tony Sciumbato says the city will connect to a new tower that will be built near Highway 61. He says Montrose has had a lot of problems with its water system in recent years. Sciumbato says the initial cost to connect to the new provider, set up water meters, and begin water main improvements could be as much as $1,000,000. He says Montrose is applying for some state grant money and low-interest loans. Sciumbato says residents will likely see their monthly water bills more than double, once the project gets going. If the funding comes through, construction could begin next fall. Denmark is also looking for state and federal money to upgrade its drinking water system.
