Montrose Resumes GRRWA Payment

Montrose, IA – Montrose is once again making payments to the Great River Regional Waste Authority. For more than a year, Montrose has been collecting a waste management fee from residents. Instead of sending that money to the waste authority, the city was placing it in a separate fund. The city council has now authorized the reinstatement of Montrose's monthly payment of roughly $1600. The collected money, more than $38,000, is also being paid to the waste authority. Mayor Tony Sciumbato says Montrose is satisfied that the waste authority has made enough changes, especially in 2 areas. A state audit of the Great River Regional Waste Authority, released earlier this year, revealed questionable and improper spending was taking place. Sciumbato says he is glad the issue is over and hopes things can get back to normal between Montrose and the waste authority.
