A young child who was visiting Macomb came down with a case of the measles, raising concerns about who might have been exposed to the virus.
The McDonough County Health Department is seeking people who were in at least one of two locations last week:
- The McDonough District Hospital emergency room and waiting area on Sunday, February 16, between 11:00 am and 3:00 pm.
- Guadalajara Mexican Restaurant on Tuesday, February 18, between 11:00 am and 2:00 pm
Anyone who was in either one of the locations during those times should contact the health department if they have not already been in touch.
The health department said measles is highly contagious. It’s an airborne virus that can be spread through breathing, coughing, and sneezing.
The agency said those who have not been immunized are at the greatest risk.
Measles was declared eliminated from the United States in 2000. But cases have been on the rise in recent years, and 189 cases were reported in the U.S. last year.
