A man was able to walk away, Wednesday morning, from a grain bin accident in rural Des Moines County.
The Burlington Fire Department said it responded to a home on Washington Road in Flint River Township at just before 9:00 a.m. The call came in for a man trapped inside a grain bin.
When firefighters arrived, they found the man trapped up to his armpits.
“The man had been working to move the grain out of the bin when the top crust gave way, sending him down into the grain,” said the department in a news release.
Firefighters entered the grain bin through an access hole. Upon reaching the victim, they encased him in a “grain tube,” which helps keeps the person stable and allows rescue personal to slowly remove the grain.
The department said as soon as the grain was removed, the victim was able to walk out of the bin and into an ambulance, which took him to the hospital for evaluation.
No injuries to rescue personnel were reported. Emergency crews were on the scene for nearly three hours.
