Macomb Fights Back

Macomb, IL – Macomb aldermen will consider a ten-fold increase in the minimum fine for fighting. Right now, the fine is $25. But aldermen will be asked to hike it to a minimum of $250. The city's police department says fighting is becoming more prevalent. It's already responded to more than 80 fights this school year. Police also say the fights are getting more serious. The department says at least two people have undergone surgery for their injuries. The city's legal counsel will draft an ordinance for aldermen to review at next week's committee meeting. First reading of the proposal will take place at the city council's first meeting next month.
