Library Offers Building to City

Carthage, IL – The Carthge Library Board is willing to give its former building back to the city. Library Board Secretary Linda Stoverink says the board realizes all government units are short of money, so they decided to make the building a gift. It had been the city building before it was deeded to the library. She says the library board would like to make the transfer as soon as possible to put an end to paying the upkeep. Aldermen had voted to offer up to $2,500 for the structure. Mayor Jim Nightingale says the building will be remodeled to handle council chambers, city offices and the police department.
