Let The Bells Ring

Burlington, IA – For the second consecutive year, Tri States Public Radio is the winner of an Edward R. Murrow regional award for Use of Sound. News Director Rich Egger and Southeast Iowa Bureau correspondent Jason Parrott collaborated on Let The Bells Ring to tell the story of an unusual concert held on the streets of Burlington, Iowa. The use of sound is superb, especially in the way it contrasts different aspects of the event. It gives listeners a feel for the performance while demonstrating how the concert experience was unique to each person who attended it. The reporters even use the sound of their voices to provide a contrast. Egger's voice is used for the pre- and post-concert portions of the piece while Parrott's voice is used to describe what goes on during the performance. Let The Bells Ring is a truly outstanding example of how sound can be used to tell and enhance a story. The feature is the winner in this category for the region that includes Illinois, Indiana, Ohio and Michigan. The Murrows are awarded by the Radio & Television News Directors Association.
