A Lee County judge is facing suspension for violating the state’s judicial code.
The Iowa Supreme Court is evaluating whether District Associate Judge Emily Dean should be suspended without pay for three months.
TheIowa Commission on Judicial Qualifications initially suspended Dean in 2012 after she arrived at the Henry County courthouse intoxicated and unable to take the bench.
Court records indicate Dean had other issues involving alcohol prior to her suspension.
Judge Dean was reinstated in November 2012, with a requirement for treatment and monitoring.
The commission says the pending three-month suspension was recommended because Dean violated judicial code and the public’s trust through these incidents.
The Supreme Court can rule in favor of the suspension, against it or change the penalty. The justices will review the case independently.
