Keokuk, IA – Regional Utility Services Systems (RUSS) works with rural communities in about a dozen southeast Iowa counties. Lee County joined the Fairfield-based organization about five years ago.
Argyle had spent several decades trying to develop its own sanitary sewer system. RUSS's involvement sped up the process and allowed the community to complete the project.
The organization is now working with Franklin on its application for federal funding.
The Lee County Board of Supervisors sent out a call for communities interested in developing their own sewer system. Four of them (Croton, Mooar, Wever, Timberline Subdivision) are now exploring their options.
RUSS board member Ernie Schiller says no other county has expressed as much interest in working with the organization as Lee County. He touts the supervisors' involvement and investment in RUSS as the reason for the surge.
Informational meetings will be held in each community later this month. The actual location of the meetings are still being determined.
