Keokuk Teachers Want Pay Bump

Keokuk, IA – Keokuk's teachers are looking for a pay hike during the upcoming school year. The Keokuk Education Association's opening contract offer includes a roughly 5% hike of the base pay for teachers, to $29,400. The organization wants to add a step to the current pay scale and is open to negotiations on the calender for the 2008-2009 school year and on health insurance premiums. The district currently pays for single policies and employees make up the difference for a family plan. The KEA also wants to work with the district on revised administrative language for a career development and evaluation program. The state's educator evaluation system is currently operating on a trial-basis. The Keokuk School District must also deliver its opening offer during a public meeting. There are 147 members of the Keokuk Education Association.
