Keokuk, IA – The Keokuk School District is looking for an outside opinion on the condition of its facilities. Superintendent Lora Wolff says about a dozen firms, from several states, have expressed an interest in creating a comprehensive facilities report for the Keokuk School District.
"What we really want to do is have someone from outside the district give us a clear perspective on all of our facilities," says Wolff, "without some of the biases that internal people might have."
Dr. Wolff says the report should look at every piece of district property. She says that includes school buildings, athletic fields, and maintenance facilities.
Wolff says the document should show whether a particular structure should be repaired or replaced. It could also get into consolidation or duplication of functions.
Business Manager Greg Reynolds says the proposals are due October 8. He says the district's current facilties committee will review them and present three options to the Keokuk School Board.
Reynolds says a recent preliminary meeting was well attended. He says the firms had a chance to tour the district properties and speak with employees in preparation of submitting a proposal.
The report would likely prioritize the district's construction projects over the next 5-10 years. It is expected to cost around $25,000.
