Keokuk, IA – The Keokuk School District hired an architectural firm out of West Des Moines to develop a long-range facilities plan. SVPA Architects started working on the document in January.

The firm met with faculty, staff, and community members to develop a district-wide priority list.

Superintendent Lora Wolff says the firm is focusing its efforts on the district's elementary schools and the high school.

SVPA provided the district with several options for the elementary schools. That list includes new construction, renovations, additions, and closing schools.

The price range for the elementary schools is $4,000,000-$13,000,000.

Another $13,000,000-$27,000,000 could be spent on Keokuk High School. The list of work from SVPA Architects includes exterior improvements, industrial technology upgrades, renovations to Calvert Stadium, and a performing arts center.

Dr. Wolff says the final number, district-wide, needs to be about $13,000,000. She says that is how much the district will be able to borrow through the use of Iowa's state-wide local option sales tax.

A final recommendation from SVPA Architects is expected in late August.
