Keokuk Man Charged w/ Attempted Murder

A Keokuk man has been charged with attempted murder in connection with a shooting over the weekend.

The Lee County Sheriff's Office arrested Andrew Yerhart, 25, of 3593 Arglye Road at around 1:00 A.M. on Sunday, August 11.

Yerhart is accused of shooting Michael Rupp II, 31, also of Keokuk, at approximately 8:30 P.M. on Saturday, August 10.

Authorities say Rupp identified Yerhart as the shooter during a call to the Sheriff's Office.

Rupp called the office about 30 minutes before he was shot to report that persons at the Red Wing Access on the Des Moines River wanted to assault him.

The subjects allegedly left the scene when officers responded to the call.

Authorities say, shortly afterwards, Rupp was driving his truck when Yerhart approached him on an ATV.  Yerhart allegedly shot Rupp in the neck after Rupp refused to pull over.

Rupp was eventually transported to University of Iowa Hospitals, via Keokuk Area Hospital, for treatment.

Yerhart fled the scene before being captured.

He is currently being housed in the Lee County Jail on a $50,000 cash-only bond.  His first court appearance is scheduled for next week.
