Keokuk Counters Contract Offers To Unions

Keokuk, IA – Keokuk's counter-offers to 2 unions do not include the pay hikes employees were seeking. The General Union, which includes employees from the bridge, parks, and streets departments, is seeking a 2-year deal with pay hikes of 6.5% and 6.0%. Employees at the Water Pollution Control Plant want a 3-year deal with an annual 6% across the board hike. The city has countered with a pair of 3-year contract proposals. Each deal calls for an annual 1.5% pay hike. Keokuk also wants to eliminate a provision, established in previous contracts, that requires the city to provide health insurance to qualifying workers after retirement. The city's offer to the General Union also calls for changes to sick leave options and probationary employee status. In the offer to the Water Pollution Control Plant workers, the city rejects proposals to add a holiday or change sick leave policy. With the open sessions complete, the city has formally entered private negotiations with the four unions representing city workers.
