Keokuk To Add Stop Signs

Keokuk, IA – There will soon be a few more stop signs in Keokuk. The 2-way stop intersections at 18th and Franklin, 18th and Fulton, and 19th and Fulton, will soon become 4-way stops. The high-use intersections are located near several schools and the city's medical complex. The city council took the final steps, last night, to approve the additional stop signs. Alderman Bill Olmsted, who previously voted against the idea, says the safety concerns brought up by residents changed his mind. Olmsted says this vote, though, could have a direct impact on the future of the stop lights along Main Street. He says there is no difference between adding stop signs to make it easier for kids to play and keeping stop lights to make it safer for shoppers to cross Main Street.
