Just One Candidate for Montrose Election

Montrose, IA – Montrose could end up paying several thousand dollars to re-affirm a recent appointment to the city council. Mark Holland was chosen, last month, to fill a vacancy. At the time, residents called for a special election. The price tag would be about $2000. As it turns out, Holland is the only person who turned in the necessary paperwork to be placed on the ballot for Tuesday's special city council election. In fact, City Clerk Celeste Cirinna says no one else took out nominating papers, from her office, though the documents are available online. The special election must go on, despite having just one candidate, because of potential write-in votes. The eventual winner will serve the final 3 1/2 years on former council member Cathy Roberts' term.
