Juneteenth in Macomb

Macomb, IL – The city's third annual Juneteenth celebration will be held Saturday in Chandler Park. The three-hour event begins at 4:00 p.m. and will include free food and entertainment. Juneteenth celebrates the end of slavery. It marks the day news of the Emancipation Proclamation finally reached all parts of the United States in 1865. Organizers of the Macomb event say it's open to everyone and is designed to promote the idea that everyone in the community is important. More about the Juneteenth celebration in Macomb can be heard on "Emphasis" at noon Thursday on Tri States Public Radio.
