Insurance Settlement in School Fire

Burlington, IA – The Burlington Board of Education has accepted a $5.9 million offer from its insurance company to cover its losses for the fire that heavily damaged Horace Mann Middle School. As part of the settlement, the district must either build a new middle school or make additions to its two remaining middle schools, which are James Madison and Oak Street. Superintendent Mike Book says the school board will meet with architects later this month to discuss construction options. He says no information on the cause of the fire has been given to the school district.
