Incentive Possible for Rural Lee County

Lee County, IA – Lee County's unincorporated areas are in line for a new financial incentive to spur development. The Board of Supervisors wants to develop an urban revitalization plan for rural Lee County. Supervisor Joe Kowzan says the program would waive real estate taxes on new residential or commercial properties for 2 years. He says the tax exemption would also be open to property owners looking to expand their current homes by $10,000 or their existing businesses by $15,000. Kowzan says a similar incentive program is already in place for new or expanding industries in rural Lee County. THe county had to mail formal notices about the plan to every homeowner or business in the unincorporated areas. A public hearing will be held next week. Kowzan says the new tax program could be approved by the end of the year.
