Improvements to Burlington's Bracewell

Metzger Johnson Architects

The Burlington School District’s Bracewell Stadium could be in line for a multi-million dollar upgrade.

The Purple and Grey Foundation, which is an organization that supports athletics, is proposing a roughly $3.4-million renovation of the facility.

Bracewell plays host to both soccer and football games.

The foundation has developed a rough design of what it wants to see: a new artificial turf, accessible restrooms, revamped locker rooms, a new press box and additional parking.

The Burlington School Board has signed off on the concept and has agreed to pay up to 25% of the cost of the project to help spur fundraising.

Business Manager Chris Stensland says there is money available for the project.

She says the city established an extra reserve account of about $1-million when it last borrowed money, so that money can be used.

Stensland says the district cannot afford the entire project, so local fundraising will determine whether the renovations proceed.

She says more detailed designs will have to come back before the Burlington School Board at some point.
