Oquawka, IL – The Henderson County Republican Party has appointed a new state's attorney. He'll take over for Ray Cavanaugh, who's been appointed to an associate judgeship on the ninth judicial circuit.

The county's republican party settled on Scott McClintock, a former Assistant State's Attorney in Warren County. The search team interviewed three potential candidates, all from west central Illinois.

Henderson County GOP Chair Larry Anderson says McClintock "fits in" with the county when it comes to morals, values and attitudes.

"He's just so easy to get along with," says Anderson. "He's a fine Christian person, and one of the most important things is that he follows the constitution. With legality things, he's very much on top of everything."

Anderson says the Republican party has reviewed McClintock's record of service in Warren County, and is convinced he knows what he's doing.

"He will do it all," says Anderson. "We need a person that, if we have a problem legally and the sheriff calls him at 2:30 in the morning, we can get a hold of him, and he'll be there. He'll live in Henderson County."

McClintock's appointment could be short lived, however, as the position is up for election this fall. Larry Anderson says the GOP could have simply appointed someone to fill out the remainder of the term, but the party didn't want that. Anderson says he wanted someone in there who the party felt is the best fit for the position

Scott McClintock will officially take office on July 2, the same day Ray Cavanaugh takes his position as associate judge. McClintock will earn approximately $129,000.
