Groundbreaking Held in Fort Madison

Community leaders in Fort Madison have broke ground on a construction project that’s been years in the making.

More than 100-people braved the heat and the sun to watch the first shovels hit the ground for the new Fort Madison Sports Complex.

It will be located along 48th Street, across from the new Fort Madison Middle School.

Mayor Brad Randolph says this project has been talked about for several decades, so he is proud of how the community has supported the project.

He says the complex will not only benefit residents, but also serve as a recruiting tool for economic development because of the need for special amenities.

The roughly $4-million dollar complex will feature three baseball/softball diamonds, three soccer/football fields and a concession stand.

Fundraising will continue as a second phase is already being discussed.

Construction of this first phase is expected to be completed in about one year.
