Grant Helps Refurbish Courthouse

Monmouth, IL – A USDA grant will help pay part of the cost of repairs to the Warren County Courthouse.

Jolene Willis of the Western Illinois Economic Development partnership says crews were installing wiring for a fire alarm system when they discovered other problems, including a leaking roof.

Willis says that changed the order of the more than $100,000 worth of work planned for the building.

She says in addition to new wiring and a new roof, the building needs repairs to help keep the facia from crumbling.

The grant came from Rural Development funds. Willis says there are few grants that will provide money for "brick and mortar" work for government entities.

The county is continuing to seek other grant funding for the remaining work.
