Graduation Numbers on the Rise for Largest SE Iowa Schools

Graduation numbers are on the rise for the three largest school districts in southeast Iowa.

The Iowa Department of Education has released the figures for the Class of 2013.

They show the Burlington, Fort Madison, and Keokuk School Districts handed out 501 diplomas last year.  That is an increase of 35 diplomas compared to the previous year.

The trio also saw significant boosts in their graduation rates.

These increases come as the remaining public school districts in Lee and Des Moines Counties saw their graduation rates dip slightly last year, despite handing out more diplomas.

The statewide graduation rate was just under 90%.

DROP-OUT RATES

The Iowa Department of Education has also released drop-out rates for the Class of 2013 and these numbers are not nearly as good for the southeast corner of the state.

Drop-out rates increased for five of the seven public school districts in Lee and Des Moines Counties, compared to the previous year.

The exceptions were the Burlington and Central Lee School Districts.

The statewide drop-out rate came in at just under 3% last year.
