Galesburg Superintendent Search Underway

T.J. Carson

The Galesburg School District has started the process for hiring a new superintendent.

The Board of Education agreed to use the Illinois Association of School Boardsas its search firm. The district is seeking a successor for Superintendent Bart Arthur, who will retire at the end of the school year.

Board President Michael Panther said the pool of candidates will be wider by advertising the position now.

“The best people are going to be already looking at jobs or already signing on the dotted line for jobs.  So we think it’s important to get a good start on this,” he said.

Panther said the search is expected to take four to five months.

“By mid-February, according to this timeline, we’d be hiring a new superintendent,” he said.

The district will pay the IASB just under $8,000.
