Fort Madison Improving Image

Fort Madison, IA – Fort Madison hopes a program that focuses on improving the city's appearance will continue to grow. Chamber of Commerce Executive Director, Tracy Vance, says roughly $20,000 was brought in, last year, for Fort Madison's beautification and image problem. He says this year's goal is at least $40,000. The money will be used to offset the costs associated with tearing down dilapidated structures. Vance says the program is important as Fort Madison tries to sell itself to potential or current employers. He says a half dozen properties were demolished, last year, while several others are still being rehabilitated. He says at least 12 more properties, along Fort Madison's major thoroughfares, will be targeted this year.
