Fort Madison, IA – The Fort Madison School Board has approved the final design for the new 4th-8th grade building. The complex will be located at the intersection of 48th Street and Bluff Road.

Superintendent Ken Marang says this allows Des Moines-based DLR Group to finalize construction documents. He says the $20-million project should go out for bid in May.

Marang says the new school will be very impressive. He says the district is shooting for the "WOW" factor with the complex.

Marang says interior features (flooring, paint colors) are currently being selected.

Construction could get underway in June or July. The doors should open to kids and teachers for the 2012/2013 school year.

The roughly 110,000 square-foot school will replace Fort Madison Middle School and Denmark Elementary School. Marang says no plans have been finalized as to what to do with the buildings.
