Former Macomb Police Officer's Court Hearing Postponed

TSPR's Rich Egger

Bill Kennedy's court hearing Monday was pushed back until October 22 . He's  charged with forgery and state benefits fraud.

Kennedy, of Blandinsville, faces up to eight  years in prison.

Kennedy is accused of illegally obtaining a SNAP link card in someone else’s name and using the card. He’s also accused of writing a check to himself from someone else’s account for $5,000.

At what had been scheduled to serve as his preliminary hearing Monday, Kennedy’s attorney requested a continuation. No reason was provided for the delay.

Kennedy was arrested in late July. Preliminary court hearings are required within 60 days of an arrest, but Kennedy waived that right.

He is also not required to attend next month's court hearing.

McDonough County Assistant States Attorney Christina Mullison said it is possible a plea deal will be reached with Kennedy prior to the hearing date.

Kennedy joined the Macomb Police Department as a patrol officer in 2005.  He resigned July 30, 2014, one day after the charges against him became public.
