Flash Flooding in Western Illinois

Jane Carlson

Security cameras at Carl Sandburg College in Galesburg captured video of flood waters bursting through the front doors during Tuesday night’s heavy downpour. The dramatic footage can be seen in the embedded video below.

Elsewhere in Warren, Knox and Henderson Counties, flash flooding turned streets into rivers and parking lots into lakes.  Residents and businesses are continuing the clean-up.

I-DOT reports that US 34, from IL 94 at Biggsville to US 67 at Monmouth, is temporarily closed due to high water. Detour signs are in place.

Flood warnings remain in effect for counties along the Illinois and Mississippi Rivers as well as Warren and Knox Counties.

The National Weather Service forecast includes a chance of rain through Saturday night, with the possibility of more heavy rainfall.
