An organizer of the Cornfed Film Fest in Macomb said the event’s future depends on whether the community gets more involved with it.
Nancy Crossman said only about six or seven people helped plan the second annual festival. She said there was additional assistance during the weekend event from the Film Studies Club at Western Illinois University.
Crossman said more volunteers are needed – especially during the planning and execution stages – if Cornfed is going to grow.
“We definitely would like to bring more people in from out of town because we would like to make this a destination event,” Crossman said.

Crossman said she would like Cornfed to offer more films, conduct small workshops, and hold film-related lectures and panel discussions.
“We have a lot of ideas, but again, that’s not going to happen unless we have more people involved,” Crossman said.
She said the goal for now is to continue holding all events on and around Macomb’s courthouse square. She said organizers could consider showing some films and holding events at other locations if the festival grows larger.
Crossman believes this year’s film fest was well organized and well attended. The “Best of Fest” honor was awarded to the documentary Class C – The Only Game in Town.
