Escaped Inmate Captured

The Iowa Department of Corrections says the man who escaped from a prison work crew in Keokuk on Monday is back in custody.

Steven Adcock is being held in the Stoddard County Jail in southeast Missouri.  An extradition hearing is scheduled for Thursday morning.

Adcock was arrested following a short pursuit.  He was driving a stolen vehicle from Kansas City, Missouri at the time.

Adcock escaped while he was working in Keokuk's Oakland Cemetery.

There are two prison crews that regularly work in Keokuk, mowing grass and landscaping city property.  Each crew has five inmates and one supervisor.

Adcock was serving a maximum of 16 years at the Iowa State Penitentiary for burglary, theft and drug posession prior to his escape.  Additional charges are expected.
