Rich Egger's guest is Janine Cavicchia, Director of the Women's Center at Western Illinois University. They talk about Women's History Month.

The national theme for WHM is developed by the National Women's History Project. This year it's "Women's Education, Women's Empowerment."

"The more educated everyone is, the more empowered we are to make a difference, to be able to have our voices heard, to speak up for ourselves, and to have a positive impact," Cavicchia said.

She said numerous events and activities are scheduled at WIU and in Macomb during WHM. Some are sponsored by the Women's Center, others are organized by other groups.

A partial list of events includes:

The "Women's Art: Women's Vision" exhibit will be on display in the WIU Multicultural Center throughout the month. Other displays about women's history can be seen around campus and at Macomb City Hall.

The Dr. Elizabeth A. Kaspar Women's Lecture presents former NASA astronaut Dr. Linda Godwin, Wednesday March 7, 7:00 pm in the University Union Grand Ballroom.

The presentation "Real Women: Women as Researchers, Educators, Activists and Leaders" will be given on Thursday March 8, 12:30 pm in the Multicultural Center Multipurpose Room.

"Whaam Slam: Celebrating Women Through Slam Poetry" will be held on Friday March 23, 7:00 pm at the West Central Illinois Arts Center on Macomb's Courthouse Square.
