Keokuk, IA – Jason Parrott's guest is Ginger Shaw, who is the director of Children First of Lee and Van Buren Counties.

Children First of Lee and Van Buren Counties provides services for children ages zero to five and their families in areas such as transportation and mentoring.

Shaw says the organization tries to show families support while promoting positive choices because future education success starts at home. She says 2010 has been a difficult year for Children First of Lee and Van Buren Counties.

Shaw says the organization is losing several hundred thousand dollars in state funding which is leading to the downsizing or elimination of five local programs.

Shaw says her agency's governing board will continue to try to find money for programs serving those most in need. She says there has not been any talk, at this point, of asking local governments to help fund the organization.
